About the Algarve

The Algarve region of Portugal is approx 5.411 square kilometres with Faro as it's administrative centre.
The length of the south-facing coastline is approx 155 kilometres. 

At the widest point to the north, it is approximately 36 kilometres. 

There are about 100 sandy attractive beaches washed by the Atlantic Ocean and due to the maritime shelf and water currents the sea temperature can be often be surprisingly warm even in some of the winter months. 

Located on the tip of Europe with the vast ocean of the Atlantic as its southern and western border, this enviable position gives this region possibly the most unpolluted climate in the European continent.

Faro has a more distinctly Portuguese feel than many other resort towns. It has an attractive marina, well-maintained parks and plazas and an old town full of outdoor cafés and pedestrian lanes. 

The well preserved medieval area of the town harbour curious museums and churches (along with a bone chapel), and a vibrant nightlife – more local than expat. 

Nearby beaches, including many nearby islands, add to Faro’s allure.

Lagos is also an attractive town with many charms. It lies along the bank of the Rio Bensafrim, with 14th-century walls enclosing the pretty, cobbled streets of the old town. Tiny plazas and picturesque churches add to the allure, although most visitors are more interested in what lies outside the city walls, namely a good range of beaches, from long sweeping sands on the scenery side to secluded coastal coves. Nightlife here is among the best in the Algarve, with an eclectic mix of lounges, bars and restaurants catering to young backpackers, surfers and young couples.

Golf

The Algarve was nominated as the Europe's premier golf destination, known for its splendid landscapes and pleasant weather.
There are currently thirty seven golf courses with more ambitious projects under construction.
The most important golf courses can be found within 15 minutes drive from Faro Airport. 

Over the years the Portuguese Open has been hosted variously at Vale do Lobo, Penina, Vila Sol and Quinta do Lago South and more recently the Portugal Masters hosted at Victoria Golf Course, all of which may be included in the list of top European championship golf courses. 

Warm playing conditions and immaculately manicured fairways and greens are the norm in the Algarve.
